Our bicycle tour route passes through Maras Moray and the Salt Mines, or Salineras, located in part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, in the province of Urubamba, District of Maras, which is located at 3395 meters above sea level, where we can enjoy two tourist sites as well as beautiful landscapes surrounded by mountains, snowy peaks, and lagoons.
Another non-traditional way of being able to visit this route is with the Maras Moray Bicycle Tour, for those who seek to get out of the traditional visits and enjoy the air and exercise their bodies.
The Moray Archaeological Complex is located 7 km southwest of Maras. It is currently known for a set of huge terraces that overlap concentrically in a gigantic hole. Formerly, these beautiful terraces served in Inca times as an agricultural laboratory.
Salineras or “Minas de Sal”, known as Salineras. currently exploited by the company where the salt for the grills is produced. They were also exploited in the Inca and colonial times. You can see approximately about 3000 wells, each with an average area of about 5m2.
Day 01: Biking tour Maras Moray Cusco 5 hours
At 8:00 am, we will pick up all our passengers from their respective hotels to be able to transfer them to the Cruzpata branch where they will be given a brief explanation and instructions on how to use the bicycles and the route. From here, we will begin our bicycle adventure through Maras Moray.
From the town of Cruzpata, we will begin the bike tour along the affirmed road, enjoying the landscapes and fields of crops.
Within the journey, we will take a short rest near the Huaypo Lagoon, located at an altitude of 3500masl.
To get to the platforms of Moray, we will have a journey of approximately 1 hour riding a bicycle. When we arrive at Moray, we will be able to appreciate its circular platforms built in gigantic holes, used as an agricultural research center by the Incas.
After the visit to the Andenes de Moray, we will continue the Maras Moray bicycle tour, heading towards the typical town of Maras, with buildings from the colonial era. From here, we will continue down a section of descent by road for experienced people.
After appreciating the Sal mines or Salineras de Maras, we will have a section of Semi Down Hill, for experts, which is recommended for those who perfectly master the bicycle. After the last descent, we will have a bicycle tour for about 25 minutes until we reach Urubamba, and from here we will take the bus back to the city of Cusco.
